PURE BLOODS

LORE

After the Rift there was confusion. And fear. And through that fear and confusion Man did what Man always does; he fought. Man slaughtered Man for no other reason than to feel the familiar, comforting presence of Death within his clenched fist. The darkest of comforts, but comfort nonetheless. But it didn't take long for for Man to realise that he didn't need to kill his neighbour to feel Deaths soothing embrace. No, on this world Death came in a new form. The form of a much greater foe; The Troll.

The years passed and the humans fought less and less between themselves, instead turning their attention to the task of day-to-day survival. As is the way with people, the remaining humans found themselves naturally coalescing into diverse, separate groups. Like minds attracting like minds. Creating Factions. Some of these new Factions were formed from the power of pure belief, others from the icy grip of abject fear. The 'Pure Bloods', as they became known, however were formed by Blood.

The Pure Bloods were formed by a man named Krin Rex. In his mind there was only one way to ensure survival within this most hostile of worlds. His vision came down to Purity of the Human blood line. He knew the only path to survival for his people was to keep the Human Blood Line as clean and pure as possible. With Purity Comes Victory.

One day he gathered his followers together explaining to them his plan to lead them out into the vast wilderness, into the unknown. Once established his plan was to cultivate a community of humans so pure that nothing could defeat them. They would never have to live in fear again. And so they went. And Krin Rex went about his work, ripping the weak and the malformed from the community, like a gardener tearing weeds from the earth. Anyone who was deemed not to have the purest blood were forced out of the enclave and into the dangerous open world. Left to fend for themselves against the forces of nature. And of course, The Trolls. It was a death sentence.

And so, as is the way of Men, Krin Rex died. Though his twisted vision lived on, righteously, through his blood. His son Portan Rex continued his Fathers vision and then when he died he passed it onto his son. And so on and so on...As is the way.

Within a couple of generations the blood line was deemed to be sufficiently cleansed and the Pure Bloods turned their collective minds to power. They wanted to become a dominant force upon this once alien planet. Through collective hard work they soon achieved their wish and became a force to be reckoned with, setting up several settlements and outposts across the land. They became proficient farmers and became wealthy, trading with the other factions. And still the Rex line ruled.

But there was a problem. Their perceived strength was in fact, their biggest weakness. By its very nature, entry into the Pure Bloods was impossible. You could not join the Pure Bloods, you had to be born into it. Which meant ultimately a finite breeding pool. Which in turn steadily lead to inbreeding and all the imperfections this brings.

Whenever a child was born under these circumstances, the unfortunate newborn was immediately separated from its family and labelled with the tag ‘an Impure'. The less than perfect progeny were taken away and raised behind closed doors until their 18th birthday, upon which time they would be taken deep into the vast wilderness and abandoned.

It is rumoured though that some Impure did not in fact die in the inhospitable wilderness as was hoped. Nor were they killed at the hands of the Trolls. Instead, it is believed, some were taken by the Trolls. Used (unthinkably) against their will as Breeding stock. This is one theory as to how the Half-Breed came to be. There is even a rumour, only spoken in hushed tones after a night of too much ale, that King Klanc, king of the half-breeds, is actually a cousin to Travo Rex himself. It is said that Travo's uncle was born misshapen and 'Impure', cast out into the wild at 18 years old. Seeking out the Half-Breeds he explained to them who he was, and out of revenge helped sire a Half-Breed more powerful than any before. But as I say, this is only a rumour!

This rumour is seen to most as bloodline blasphemy. And while The Pure Bloods believe themselves to be superior in every way to every other faction, they hold their greatest contempt for the Half-breeds. Whom they see as no different to the Trolls themselves. Tainted blood.

The Pure Bloods now live within walled castles, communities and fortresses, farming the land around, constantly alert to the threat of a Troll Attack. The Pure Blood Troll Hunters were created primarily to protect the farmers and the farmland , as well as the compounds and castles. Their fearlessness is only surpassed by their air of superiority. But now the Battle Arena is here, they are the perfect candidate to take the glory that the Pure Bloods believe they are destined for.
